I work in the Queen Victoria Market every Tuesday and Friday. I work as a shopkeeper in a shop which sells t-shirt, sweaters and jackets for kids and adults. The Queen Victoria Market opens every Tuesday and Thursday(9am-2pm), Friday and Saturday (9am-3pm) and Sunday (9am-4pm). However I must arrive 30 minutes earlier and go home 30 minutes after the shop is closed.
On Friday, my stall is in L line. Next to my shop is the jewellery shop on the left side, the bag shop on the right side and the shoes and souvenir shop opposite my shop.
I like this job because:
- I have a nice and friendly boss, sometimes my boss comes to help me, if I have a lot of t-shirt to fold.
- I can meet people who come from other countries such as India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and some countries in Europe and Middle East. Most costumers of the shop are from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, so we can talk in Indonesian or Malay. Many costumers ask for discounts when they shop. But I can’t give them a discounted price if they only buy a few t-shirt. I can reduce the price if they buy ten or more t-shirt. For every ten t-shirt I can give one t-shirt for free.
- As shop keepers we like to help each other. For example if I want to go to toilet, I will ask another shop keeper to look after my shop; and so do others. Furthmore, it is normal for us to change money if we don’t have change or small money to return to customers.
